Happy Halloween 2016 from DealDash!

The story about the Jack-o’-lantern comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack. The story is much too scary to tell here on this family blog – but suffice to say that carving a Jack-o’-lantern is a perfect thing to do to get into a spooky frame of mind.

Interestingly enough, Halloween is the second most commercially successful holiday here in the USA – trailing after Christmas, of course. You might wonder what all of that money is going towards. Candy is a huge part of it, of course, Americans buy about 600 million pounds of candy each year for Halloween. Also going towards the tally are costumes, pumpkins, party supplies, and decorations. About 50% of households in the US decorate for Halloween, which makes things so much more fun for the trick-or-treaters.

May Is National Bike Month – Get Yours at DealDash

Bikes are fun for everyone who is able bodied enough to walk, from the smallest child to senior citizens. Bikes are not only fun, but they are the primary mode of transportation for many people, and burn lots of calories helping you get your work out for the day while you are enjoying a bike ride. Bikes are great for getting the family together for a nice ride around the neighborhood, and fun for small kids to just ride up and down the driveway. Mountain bikes have different speeds so you can transition from gravel roads to rough trails to a paved road with no problem whatsoever. If mountains and rough trails aren’t your thing, how about a beach cruiser bike? Beach cruisers aren’t just for the beach! Beach cruisers are great bikes for the casual rider who enjoys a ride around the neighborhood instead of an intense workout. Beach cruisers are also a popular bike with seniors and vacationers. Personally, I have a Schwinn beach cruiser and it’s the most comfortable bike that I have ever ridden, and the only one that hasn’t caused me to have a sore body afterwards.

Lastly, we can’t forget children’s bikes! I’ve never met a kid who wasn’t excited to go for a bike ride. I got both of my older children bikes for Christmas and they are so excited for Spring to be here so they can go out and ride them more often. The most important thing with kid’s bikes is to make sure that you get your child the right size. I will include a chart below that shows what size bike (in inches) that you should be looking for when you are shopping for a bike for a child.

Today’s article is all about swimming! Not only is swimming fun it’s also great for your health and an important life skill to have.

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) There are approximately 3,500 fatal unintentional drownings (non-boating related) annually in the United States — that’s about ten deaths per day. An additional 347 people died each year from drowning in boating-related incidents. About one in five people who die from drowning are children age 14 and younger. As you can see from these statistics it’s extremely important that you and your children know how to swim, just in case.

In addition to swimming being a skill that everyone should master, it’s also extremely healthy and good for your body. Even elderly people who have trouble walking long distances can usually swim for their health and enjoyment because in the water you are practically weightless, so therefore there is very little stress on your bones, ligaments, and joints that can lead to pain.

Swimming is a good all-round activity because it:

keeps your heart rate up but takes some of the impact stress off your body.
builds endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness.
helps maintain a healthy weight, healthy heart and lungs.
tones muscles and builds strength.

If the safety and health benefits aren’t enough reasons for you to go swimming, then how about the fact that swimming is extremely fun an loved by both young and old? Every single kid I know loves going to the pool, and most of the adults enjoy taking them as well. Swimming is a great family activity because everyone can participate, even babies can get in the water as long as they are being helped by Mommy or Daddy.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

This is my last blog to you before Christmas, tomorrow is Christmas Eve! It truly is a wonderful time of year and we all have so much to be thankful for.

Personally, I have had a wonderful year this time around, and though the year isn’t quite over yet I keenly feel extremely thankful around Christmas time. I would also like to thank DealDash for having so many wonderful auctions this year, I have won some very nice items, and this has allowed me to treat my family and friends to much better gifts than I would have normally been able to get them.

In addition to the actual goods that I have been able to get them, I have also gotten many gift cards at a great discount, at one point this year I had over $500 in Toys R Us gift cards that I had gotten from DealDash for a fraction of that amount. I believe that I used the BIN (Buy It Now) feature a couple of times, however when you use the BIN feature you get all of your bids back when you buy the gift card at face value, as well as free shipping AND you get to keep your “time as the highest bidder”, so it’s really a win-win situation even if you don’t win.

What are some of your traditions on Christmas Eve? In my family we have always let the kids open one small present on Christmas Eve, and then we go for a drive before bedtime and look at all of the beautiful Christmas lights. I have heard about other traditions such as each child gets a new set of pajamas on Christmas Eve, some other people do traditions with food.
