Living Healthy: Let’s Learn About Yoga Together

Welcome back to DealDash Blog’s Living Healthy series. Today’s blog is going to give you a quick and easy introduction to yoga. Let’s get started!

I’m sure that you have heard the word “yoga” before, but I bet that you didn’t know that the word yoga came from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, which means to yoke or bind. Yuj is often interpreted as “union” or a method of discipline. If you are just getting started into the practice of yoga, you will be pleased to know that you can spend as much or as little time doing yoga and you will still be able to reap the benefits of this healthy and calming exercise. Even if you only practice yoga for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of that practice. If you can do more than that, you will certainly experience more benefits. I suggest starting with two or three times a week, for an hour or an hour and a half each time. If you can only do 30 minutes per session, that’s fine too. Don’t worry or stress, just get another practice in when you have the chance.

Here is an infographic of some of the most popular yoga poses. Please note the color coding on the infographic, some of these are advanced poses not meant for the beginner!

Now that you’ve seen some of the poses, let’s talk about some of the benefits of practicing yoga. Here are some great reasons to start:

1- Sleep. Yoga can help you sleep better. When you start practicing yoga you’ll be releasing pent up energy that could prevent you from falling asleep, and sleeping soundly once you do get to sleep. Yoga helps relax your nervous system, which is the part of your body responsible for restful sleep or a night of tossing and turning.

2-  Builds muscle strength. Yoga requires you to get into and hold positions that will naturally strengthen your muscles, using only your body’s weight for resistance.

3- Lower blood pressure. Yoga is a great workout for your heart, and will improve your cardiovascular function over time.

4- Metabolism. Yoga helps improve your metabolism, which is directly responsible for helping you burn more calories with less work.

5- Better posture. Yoga will give you better posture naturally. All of the poses you’ll be performing are geared to get your body back into proper alignment the way that it should be.

Living Healthy: Getting a Good Night’s Sleep

Everyone knows that getting enough sleep is an important factor in staying healthy, but there are other factors than just getting 8 hours in. Let’s talk a little bit about Living Healthy, and how to get a good night’s sleep.

Everyone knows that you SHOULD get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night, but with kids, working extra hours on the job, household chores, and errands sometimes it’s hard to get to bed at a reasonable hour. You should really make your best effort to get your ZZZs, because your health can really suffer if you can’t make the time.  Not practicing healthy sleep habits can lead to all kinds of health problems, poor sleep leads to cardiovascular dysfunction, a poor immune system , glucose and insulin abnormalities, weight gain due to fluctuating hormones that control appetite, and impaired cognitive function. Not only those physical problems, but lack of sleep can also lead to mental issues as well, including anxiety, depression, impaired reasoning skills, and mental sluggishness.

Well, what can you do to get not only the quantity but also the quality of sleep that you need? There are a few things that are fairly obvious such as cutting down on caffeine (especially after 3 PM), keeping your bedroom dark and comfortable, and clearing your mind of troubles and worries before you attempt to drift off.

However, there are some lesser known tips and tricks to get a better night’s sleep that I will share with you. For instance, did you know that using your tablet and smartphone right before you try to sleep can hinder the process? The light that is emitted by these types of devices wake up the senses and make it harder for your brain to get into “sleep mode.” For your best night’s sleep turn off your electronic devices about an hour before bedtime. Another great trick to getting a good night’s sleep is to keep a fan going in your bedroom all night. The fan serves two purposes – It’s easier to fall asleep when your room is a bit on the cooler side, and the fan also provides just the right amount of “white noise” to help you block out every little creak and crack that your house makes at night.

I hope this article helps you on a journey to better sleeping habits. If you’re interested in getting some new soothing items for your bedroom, including the fan that I recommended head on over to DealDash. If you browse the Home & Office   category I’m sure that you’ll find something that you just love. Good luck and happy bidding everyone!

Rachael Ray Knows Her Way Around a Kitchen!

Who pops into your head when someone mentions the Food Network? I’ll bet Rachael Ray is in your top 3 that you think of! She’s everywhere!

Most people might recognize Rachael Ray as a celebrity chef on the Food Network. She was born on August 25, 1968 in New York, and has been around restaurants all of her life, thanks to her mom who was a restaurant manager when Rachel was young. She is also an author as well as hosting the syndicated daily talk and lifestyle program Rachael Ray, and three Food Network series: 30 Minute Meals, Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels, and $40 a Day.

One of the most interesting things that I found out about Rachael Ray is that in 2007, The Oxford American College Dictionary announced the addition of the term EVOO, short for extra-virgin olive oil, which Ray had helped to popularize, and credited her with coining the phrase. This phrase started on her television programs, she has used catchphrases such as “E-V-O-O” (extra-virgin olive oil) as well as a few others that haven’t caught on quite as much such as  “stoup” (cross between a soup and stew), and “choup” (thicker than a soup but thinner than a chowder).

Why am I telling you all about Rachael Ray? Well, if you like her products then you should see what DealDash has for you! DealDash offers many of her high quality products such as Stoneware Oil and Vinegar Bottles, 3.5-quart stoneware covered rectangular casserole dish, and my personal favorite, the Hard Enamel 10pc Cookware set in 2-tone red.  I got this cookware set from DealDash right around the time that I was moving, and it was one of the very first things that I unpacked when I moved in.  This set includes: 1 Qt. Covered Saucepan, 2 Qt. Covered Saucepan, 6 Qt. Covered Stockpot, 3 Qt. Covered Saute, 8.5″ Skillet, and 10″ Skillet. All of these items have a nonstick interior. The nonstick interior allows food to slide off and makes cleanup quick and easy. All of them also have soft grippy handles. The rubberized dual-riveted handles are comfortable and oven safe to 350°F. The lids are made of tempered glass – Watch your foods cook without having to remove the lid to keep moisture locked in. Here is a picture of me with my Rachael Ray cookware set!

The Keys to Winning Auctions on DealDash.com

This blog post is to help bidders learn a few of the basic building blocks to a winning strategy. If you’re an experienced bidder, it might be useful to revisit some of these ideas and think about whether or not there’s room to refine your strategy.

If this is your first experience with DealDash, congratulations! DealDash is the longest running pay-to-bid site of its kind in the United States, and currently provides service to over 1.5 million registered users. Everyday people visit the site, have a great time bidding and looking through the thousands of available items, and many customers (even the new ones) win great deals on products they love.

But winning isn’t a matter of luck on DealDash: bidders who win do so because they’ve taken the time to learn how the auctions and the website work. By keeping these few pieces of advice in mind you can save yourself both time and money and learn what the best bidders already know!

Watching Auctions Pays Off More Than You Might Think

Watching auctions on DealDash might not be as much fun as watching your favorite TV show, but it pays off for bidders. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to do to create a winning strategy is to learn how bidders behave in the auctions (this is advice from some of the most experienced bidders on DealDash)! Spend a little bit of time watching how bidders react, who bids when, and what kind of products attract more bidders. Watch and learn…then win!

Read Through the Website and Some of the Blog Entries

DealDash regularly posts information to help people learn how to win, both in this blog and on the website. While the blog provides summaries of key strategies and provides some context on how they can be used to your advantage, the website contains raw data that you can use to make decisions. Pages like the Winners page lets you see who’s winning what, when they’re winning it, and for how much – all of them important pieces of information. Information like that can tell you who might be a power bidder, or highlight a couple of hours when the items sold for unusually cheap prices. The blog, on the other hand, highlights some of the particulars of bidding and helps illustrate how certain features, concepts, and ideas can be your key to winning auctions.

Familiarize Yourself with the Tools of Your Trade

DealDash has several unique features to help bidders in their quest for bigger and better wins. Many of the tools are easy to use and understand, but surprisingly some people don’t take the time to learn about them before bidding. Here’s a few example of things you can use to help you learn to win auctions:

  • Bookmarks – You can bookmark auctions that you’re interested in and then view them all on the same page
  • The BidBuddy – The BidBuddy is an automated bidding tool that places bids for you even while you’re away from the computer.
  • No Jumper Limits – One of the most frustrating experiences for bidders is when they’re reaching the end of the auction.

It’s down to you and one other bidder (who may or may not be your arch nemesis)…and you’re bidding back and forth trying to outlast each other. It’s been a long, hard-fought battle, but now you can see the light at the of the tunnel…and then another bidder joins the auction.

Nothing is worse for bidders than the above situation, which is why DealDash has implemented “No Jumper” auctions. These No Jumper auctions prevent new bidders from joining after the item price reaches $5 (sometime less if there’s a sale), thereby limiting the number of bidders who can join that particular auction. There’s less competition in these auctions, and so they’re easier to win!

The “Buy it Now” Helps you Save Money

People come to DealDash to win great deals in the auctions, but nobody wins all the time. That’s why there’s the “Buy it now” (BIN) option. This lets you buy the item from the auction at a regular price. You read that last sentence and though “Where’s the deal in that?”. Well, when you BIN an item, you get all your bids back from that auction for FREE, and so you can use them in another auction. Many new bidders don’t realize this at first, but this can actually help you save a lot of money on bids, and you still get the product you want. It really minimizes the risk of using your bids and then walking away with nothing. That’s why bidding DealDash is a risk-free proposition!
